Setting Up LottaNZB

Prerequisites

What you need to get started with LottaNZB is:

  • A news server account, giving you access to the Usenet. There are numerous news server at different prices and with a different retention. A retention of 500 days means that a file will be deleted from that server 500 days after it has been uploaded.

  • A Usenet search engine that allows you to search for files on the Usenet and download the corresponding NZB files.

First Start

When starting the application for the first time, you asked whether you want to download to your computer or remotely manage the downloads of another computer. Read on to learn how to do the former.

  1. For downloading files from the Usenet, LottaNZB depends on a application called SABnzbd. If this software cannot be found on your computer, you are asked to install it. Please follow the provided instructions on how to do so.

  2. Next, you need to enter the details of your news server account.

Usually, the website of the news server contains the address and port number to be entered. Depending on the news server, it may be possible to encrypt the data downloaded to your computer using SSL. Activate the corresponding check-box if this is the case.

In most cases, a username and a password needs to be entered. Some free news servers allow anonymous access and don’t require a username and a password.

Clicking OK will bring up the main window, where you can add your first download.
